Centenarian Jean Smith has celebrated her milestone birthday in style by combining her two favourite things — afternoon tea and Frank Sinatra’s greatest hits.
Jean, who lives at Hambleton Grange care home in Thirsk, received deliveries of flowers, balloons, presents and cards, including a special telegram from the Queen which filled her room as she enjoyed Facetime calls with family and friends.
Jean was also delighted to have a socially distanced visit from her daughter.
The pair spent time catching up and Jean received a bottle of her favourite Chanel Number 5, an iconic perfume which is also celebrating its 100th birthday this year.
Jean’s two-year-old great grandson sent a heart-warming video birthday message, where he sang happy birthday to his grandma.
The care team at Hambleton Grange said there was not a dry eye in the house.
To mark the occasion, the team organised a high tea for Jean and her friends who live at the Station Road home including sandwiches and freshly made cream scones.
The group later enjoyed a specially planned Frank Sinatra concert in the homes cinema room.
Jean, who said she didn’t feel a day over 21, said: “I am very appreciative for the staff putting this party together and making me feel so special.
“I feel blessed to have made it to my 100th birthday – it really was a day to remember.”
Home manager Nikki Higgins said: “It is incredibly important to us to make sure each resident feels special on their birthday and turning 100 is extremely special.
“I am very pleased to see how much Jean has enjoyed her high tea and Frank Sinatra singalong– I think it is wonderful our team were able to make her so memorable.”
