Ingleby Arncliffe residents have voted in favour of Hambleton District Council and the North York Moors National Park Authority using their neighbourhood plan to decide planning applications in the parish.
The voting – which took place last week – had a turnout of 54 per cent.
It will be the district’s fist neighbourhood plan.
Clive Walley, member of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group, said: “After nearly 10 years work starting with the village plan, then the community plan and finally ending with the neighbourhood plan, over 50 per cent of the parish’s eligible voters took part in the local Referendum.
“The majority of the votes, 145 or 94% voted in favour of the Plan’s adoption.
“This is great news for the parish. It means we can have a greater say in local decision-making, and in the shaping of our community.
“We can determine how and when any housing development takes place and influence the type, quality and location of any housing, ensuring that changes result in local benefit.”
