A Northallerton illustrator has thanked his local customers who have supported him during the pandemic by buying his range of handmade train-themed greeting cards.

Rail enthusiast David Jennings, owner of Bus Stop Cards, has seen sales rocket during lockdown, hitting his coveted 1,000 mark on online marketplace Etsy, with the cards priced at £3.49.

Mr Jennings said he was grateful to his customers for spending hard-earned money with small businesses like his.

“It is very nice to think my cards are bringing people a smile during such hard times.”

Mr Jennings brings his love of trains which he shares with his son to his designs.

He said his cards, which feature bus designs as well as trains such as the Intercity 215 and The Flying Scotsman, are all hand-cut by him.

“The three pages work really well for long train designs.

“The folded concertina effect looks great on a mantel piece or shelf, like a little art work.”

Due his passion for trains, Mr Jennings is also donating money from sales to hard-hit local charity Wensleydale Railway, as well as the West Tanfield Railway in County Durham, where his wife grew up.
