A driver doing 38mph on the A19 aroused the suspicions of North Yorkshire Police last night.
The motorist in a Volkswagen was spotted near Thirsk.
Officers said they thought the speed the man was driving “seemed a bit strange on a quiet road”.
A spokesman added: “He turned out to have never held a driving licence and the car had no insurance or road fund licence either.
“The gentleman had only popped out for a quick run out from Walsall.”
The man will appear in court at a later date.
He was put on a train at Thirsk.
Police said the vehicle was towed away until someone can produce suitable documents for its release.
