A community which is proud to own its own shop and village hall is making further improvements to the hall thanks to council cash.
The village of Huby near Easingwold is using £3,500 from Hambleton District Council’s Making a Difference Fund to help insulate and re-clad the hall to help it retain its warmth.
Since 2016 people have come forward and supported the hall with renovations, general maintenance, bookings and supporting events.
Acting chair of Huby Memorial Village Hall Elaine Corden said: “It is the hub of activities which makes this vibrant village even more special to live in.
“We have been very fortunate to have had a local joiner in the village who could carry out this work for us during the lockdown period.
“He was able to source materials and work with his son who came back home from university.
“The staining is also being undertaken by two local volunteers who are working a safe distance apart
“This part of the renovations are almost complete and we hope it will not be too long before the hall can be used again.”
Ward member Cllr Di Watkins who supported the application said: “The hall has not only been re-clad but, most importantly, has been insulated for the first time in its life.
“We hope that this potential extra warmth will make a huge difference to the enjoyment of all of the hall users, our green credentials and to our heating costs later on in the year.”
