Northallerton residents are being asked to help collate a catalogue of items to record the district’s heritage for posterity.
Members of the Northallerton and Villages Community Forum (NVCF) are working with Hambleton District Council on the possible creation of a heritage facility for the town.
But first they are looking for items to display – and undertaking research to understand the appetite for the facility.
Local people are being asked to search their lofts, cupboards and garages for items that might be of interest – which they can then bring to a special heritage day to be valued and catalogued by experts.
“There is a great deal of interest in creating a museum or heritage centre in the town but we need to understand the volume of material available first,” said district council deputy leader, Councillor Peter Wilkinson pictured with Anthony Hughes from Northallerton Records Office.
“It will also help create a critical mass of support for such a scheme.”
Anyone with items for cataloguing is asked to complete an ‘expression of interest’ form and return it to the district council by August 2.
Items will then be considered by a panel of experts who will make a decision on whether they are suitable for display.
Those that get the go ahead will then be part of the heritage day at The Forum in Northallerton on September 8 – they will be photographed and filmed there.
