Hambleton Athletics and Running Club (HARC) had a good turnout for the annual Snape 5k and 10k.
Club leaders say the event has become a firm favourite in the race calendar, with 20 HARC runners competing this year.
The morning started with many shivering at the registration desks and rain showers threatening.
However, once the running got underway, the temperature rose and the rain stayed away – perhaps a blessing and a curse!
This event was particularly special for HARC member Annabel MacGregor, who has volunteered at Snape for several years prior to challenging herself to run the 10k.
She said: “I’ve been wanting to run one of the races in Snape since 2021 when I first helped manage the 10k finish line.
“I finally managed it in 2024 – it was lovely to start and finish in my village and run past my house.
“Running over the finish line was brilliant with so many HARC members and marshals there to give me a cheer. Can’t wait to do it again next year.”
Both courses involved a trek through a turnip field, and while the 5k route wound through the fields and tracks close to the village, the longer distance took its participants all the way into Bedale via Lords Lane, before heading back to Snape via Firby and the Thorp Perrow estate.
George Martinson, 6, ran the 5k with his dad, Paul.
He said: “It was hard running through the fields but I saved enough energy to sprint at the end.”
As always, there was an excellent spread of sandwiches, cakes, hot dogs and drinks to enjoy afterwards, with all proceeds going to the Friends of Snape & Thornton Watlass Schools.
All money raised from race entry fees was donated to the Snape Village Institute
