Hambleton waste collections hit by bad weather

Waste and recycling collections throughout Hambleton have been affected by ongoing weather conditions.

Officials say low temperatures have resulted in ice remaining on many roads and paved surfaces.

Poor conditions are expected to continue in some areas across the district throughout the rest of the week.

The district council says that while additional vehicles and staff have been deployed to assist with collections, the conditions in some areas have not improved enough to allow safe access and they may not be able to return.

If this is the case, additional waste or recycling to the equivalent of one missed collection will be collected with residents’ next scheduled collection.

Waste must be left in black sacks and recycling can only be collected in clear sacks.

These can be provided on request by calling 01609 779977.

The council says that all its crews are working long hours in the difficult conditions and they would like to thank them for their hard work and perseverance.

The authority has also thanked householders for their patience and understanding.

Garden waste collections for those who have subscribed to the garden waste scheme will take place either week commencing 11 or 18 January to accommodate Christmas trees.

Normal waste is accepted during this collection.

Trees must be chopped up and placed in the green bin with the lid closed. Trees left at the side of bins will not be collected.

The service will resume Mid-February.
