Hambleton residents are being urged to take part in a new fundraising campaign to help save the UK’s charities.
The 2.6 Challenge has been developed by organisers of the biggest mass-participation sports events across the country, including the London Marathon and parkruns.
They have come together to raise vital funds for various UK charities.
Hambleton District Council’s four leisure centres at Bedale, Northallerton, Stokesley and Thirsk & Sowerby are calling on their customers to join the Zest team and take part in any activity, based around the numbers 2.6 or 26.
It can be completed individually or done as a family and can be anything from running 2.6 miles to holding an online workout with 26 of your friends.
The challenges must be completed between Sunday, April 26 (when the 40th London Marathon would have taken place) and Sunday, May 3.
“We are calling all home heroes to get involved. From 2.6 to 26 – it’s your choice and your challenge, all for a great cause,” said Councillor Mrs Bridget Fortune, portfolio holder for Leisure.
“Whether you are running around the garden for 2.6 miles, doing 26 press-ups with the dog on your back or jumping on the trampoline for 26 minutes with your children, we want to help raise as much money as possible for NHS Charities Together – supporting NHS Staff and Volunteers caring for COVID-19 patients.
“Come on Hambleton let’s see what we can do.”
Videos and photos of staff and customers will be shared on the leisure centre’s Facebook pages including the hashtag #twopointsixchallenge
