Hambleton ready for UCI Road World Cycling Championships

Hambleton is ready to host the UCI Road World Cycling Championships with the men’s elite time trial starting in Northallerton this afternoon.

Northallerton High Street will be taken over with riders from across the globe who will set off at 1.20pm.

They will then cycle through Romanby, Morton-on Swale-and Bedale as they head to the finish line in Harrogate 54km later.

Visitors and residents are being encouraged to check out the road closures and parking restrictions for the race – some of which come into force 24 hours beforehand.

Details can be found here.

The district council is providing extra parking across the town.

Those coming from the north will be directed towards spaces at the former Allertonshire School and Civic Centre in Brompton Road.

For those coming from Bedale or Thirsk there are spaces at Northallerton Town Football Club on Ainderby Road.

The council’s Applegarth car park in the town centre is closed for race vehicles and there will be reduced capacity in the Forum car park – where there will be an extra 20 blue badge parking bays.

There will also be blue badge parking spaces on Elder Road.

All these spaces will be free of charge all day today.

The UCI Road World Championships have only been held in Great Britain on three previous occasions, the most recent of which was at Goodwood in 1982.

The 2019 Championships are taking place in Yorkshire until Sunday.
