The Hambleton winners of this year’s nature-themed photography competition run by North Yorkshire libraries have been crowned.
Budding photographers were encouraged to go outdoors and explore the natural world as part of the annual Summer Reading Challenge with the theme Wild World Heroes.
The competition, open to children aged 7 to 11, ran throughout August.
Over 140 entries were received with subjects ranging from countryside views to close ups of flowers, animals and insects.
The Stokesley winner was ten-year-old Lily Grimwood while Bella-Rae Bowers, nine, was the Northallerton winner.
They were invited to their local library to meet Chrys Mellor, the general manager of the library service, who presented them with a certificate, a large mounted picture of their photo and a library card with their photo on. Limited editions of these cards will be available from all libraries in the county.
County councillor Greg White, executive member for libraries, said: “North Yorkshire is such a beautiful place to live with an abundance of wildlife so it was wonderful to see how many children were keen to get outside this summer and record what they saw.
“All the photos were brilliant but a special congratulations must go to the seven talented winners. The new library cards are stunning so be sure to pick one up when you visit your local library.”
