Hambleton councillors look set to levy a £5 increase in council tax for an average Band D property — the equivalent of a 4.6 per cent rise.
Members of the district council’s cabinet will next week be asked to recommend the rise – which will bring the annual charge for a Band D property to £114.48 from April this year.
The council says it means the authority retains its status as one of the lowest charging councils in the country – and the lowest in North Yorkshire.
“A £5 rise will mean Hambleton householders will be paying just 50p extra per month over their ten monthly payments,” said council leader, Councillor Mark Robson.
“But that 9.6p per week will allow us to maintain services and push forward improvements for the district.”
The increase will mean a Band D property will be charged £114.48 a year for the Hambleton portion of the council tax bill – charges from North Yorkshire County Council, North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and parishes will be added to this figure.
Councillors will also be asked to set a revenue budget of £9,269,670 for 2020/21.
The rise will be discussed by members of full council on February 25.
Last year the council approved a 4.8 per cent increase.
