Hambleton councillors have today approved a £5 increase for an average Band D property in the district council’s portion of council tax, which is the equivalent of a 4.6 per cent rise.
The increase will mean a Band D property will be charged £114.48 a year – 50p extra per month over ten monthly payments.
Charges for North Yorkshire County Council, North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and parishes will be added to this figure.
“In common with other local authorities, the council faces ongoing funding challenges and we are determined to secure our own financial future and to safeguard the key services local people tell us are essential,” said council leader, Councillor Mark Robson.
“We still have the third lowest council tax in the country, thanks to our ability to provide well-run services combined with a sensible approach to our finances.
“The 9.6p per week increase will allow the council to maintain services and push forward improvements for the district.
“We currently keep just over 6p in every £1 of council tax we collect. As leader of the council, my goal is to ensure every penny is well spent.”
Hambleton District Council’s share of council tax provides services including refuse and recycling collections, sports and leisure services, market town investment, economic development, street cleaning, supporting businesses, local planning and car parking.
