The leader of Hambleton District Council has pledged to maintain key services in the face of declining funding after being elected to the role for four more years.
The first meeting of the authority since elections earlier this month saw Conservatives win 24 out of 28 seats on the authority, saw Councillor Mark Robson face no opposition to being returned to lead the council.
The meeting also saw Councillor Peter Wilkinson returned as the authority’s deputy leader and Councillor Kevin Hardisty replace Councillor David Blades as the council’s chairman.
Former motorsport boss Cllr Robson said the authority’s cabinet had been kept the same for continuity, with Councillor Bridget Fortune in charge of leisure services, Councillor Stephen Watson heading up environmental health, Councillor Isobel Sanderson leading governance and Councillor David Webster leading planning.
He said: “My aim is pretty the same as it has been since I became leader six years ago, and it’s good to have the confidence of members for the next four years, but there’s already a number of exciting projects that we have started to deliver during the last term of council which will continue and there will be several projects put to council over the next few months.
“We always face challenge because year on year we face reductions in government grants and we aim to deal with those challenges while maintaining frontline services we provide to our residents.”
