Bin collections across Hambleton will be affected by the Christmas and New Year holidays.
As tags detailing annual collection changes are no longer being produced for each household, residents are asked to check their changed dates on hambleton.gov.uk.
The first change comes this Saturday – December 19 – when collections due on Monday, December 21take place two days earlier than normal.
The rest of the week sees collections run one day early (December 22 to 25).
The following week (December 28 to 31) Monday to Thursdays collections remain unchanged.
But collections on Friday, January 1 move one day to take place on Saturday January 2.
Normal collection dates resume on Monday, January 4.
Residents are also asked to stay green over Christmas by considering the following tips:
- Recycle all cards apart from those containing glitter
- Use the scrunch test on wrapping paper and gift bags – if you scrunch it and it does not spring back – it can be recycled
- Recycle all cardboard packaging – by flattening it to save space in the bin. Wet cardboard left next to the bin cannot be collected.
- Clean cans, foil and food trays (not black) can be put in the blue lidded recycling bin.
- All plastic bottles can be recycled but flatten first to allow more space in your bin and our vehicles.
- Glass jars and bottles must go in the blue box not the blue lidded bin.
The council says it cannot recycle plastic bags, plastic wrappers, crisp packets, bubble wrap, cling film, polystyrene or unwanted plastic toys.
See hambleton.gov.uk for further details of what can and can’t be recycled.
