A Great Ayton school is to undergo a multi-million-pound redevelopment after being included in the Government’s schools rebuilding programme.

School leaders at Roseberry Academy say the funding will result in better learning facilities for students that are both more energy efficient and sustainable.

Academy principal Helen Channing said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been selected for this substantial investment.

“It will have a huge impact on children and enable the team to extend our provision so that pupils get the best possible educational experiences.”

The academy is part of the Enquire Learning Trust which operates 30 good and outstanding schools across the north of England.

Trust CEO Darren Holmes welcomed the news.

He said: “The new spaces will allow the school to build on its strong reputation and offer even more to pupils and the community.”

The school was visited over recent years by local MP and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who said the investment would make a huge impact on the pupils aged between two and 11 who attend Roseberry Academy.

The programme, worth £13 billion, will result in better learning facilities for students that are both more energy efficient and sustainable.

Academy Principal, Helen Channing further said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been selected for this substantial investment. It will have a huge impact on children and enable the team to extend our provision so that pupils get the best possible educational experiences.”

Roseberry Academy is one of 400 DfE led projects that will focus on transforming learning with new classrooms, childcare facilities, community spaces and areas for both sports and art.

The Academy itself is part of the Enquire Learning Trust which operates 30 good and outstanding schools across the north of England.

The visits to the Academy came off the back of several letters written to Mr Sunak from the pupils in 2020 regarding their concern for the Environment.

Due to the pupils’ concerns, Roseberry Academy’s redevelopment will be more energy saving and keep the cost of bills down by meeting Net Zero commitments.

Rishi Sunak commented: “I have witnessed the excellent work Mrs Channing and her team do at Roseberry Academy.

“It is a very good school and will be even better with this forthcoming transformation.”
