Funding from a housing association is helping clear the air at a thriving project that helps tackle social isolation in the Northallerton area.
The Northallerton Men’s Shed, based on the town’s Auction Mart site, provides a place for men to come together to learn about and practice a wide range of skills including computing, woodworking, and handcrafts.
The project has used a £400 grant from Broadacres’ Community Development Fund to fit dust extraction fans which remove airborne dust and provide a cleaner environment to meet.
Secretary and trustee Chris Riley said: “The project has really taken off. We have around 50 members and our first ladies taster session attracted a dozen newcomers.
“The dust extractor has proved a fantastic addition, making the venue more attractive for those seeking a place to meet others or to pursue existing and new skills in a safe friendly environment.”
Broadacres Community Development Fund supports organisations, groups, and projects in areas where Broadacres has homes, and grants are approved by the Association’s own residents, via a Community Development Fund Panel.
Broadacres resident Mags Crook, who is on the Panel, said: “The Northallerton Men’s Shed is a fantastic initiative, so we were delighted to be able to provide funding which has enabled it to enhance the experience for users of the facility.”
