An amber flood alert has been issued for the River Leven in the Stokesley area.
The Environment Agency has issued the alert advising residents and businesses that flooding is possible and to be prepared.
The alert is one of 70 issued around the country following several days of rainfall, a further 23 more severe flood warnings have also been issued.
The alert for the River Leven states: “River levels have risen on the River Leven as a result of persistent heavy rainfall overnight.
“The main areas of concern are around Stokesley, Great Ayton and Hutton Rudby, where flooding of roads and farmland is possible.
“We are closely monitoring the situation.
“We do not forecast the situation to deteriorate any further, however we expect the river to remain high throughout Thursday though no flooding to properties is currently forecast.
“Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
