Firefighters have urged visitors to Cod Beck Reservoir to heed warnings about not having camp fires.
The message comes after the fire service attended a smouldering fire at the beauty spot on Friday morning.
Firefighters from Northallerton were sent to the incident at about 8am.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Despite warnings of no camp fires allowed a member of the public spotted this smoldering fire in Cod Beck Woods on Friday morning.
“Firefighters had to dig out around the fire as it had radiated into the soft dry ground.
The crew extinguished the fire and dampened the area down using two backpack sprayers, two wildfire tools and an axe.
