Firefighters were called out following a smell of burning yesterday.
The incident in Cockpit Hill, Northallerton, was reported at 6.35pm.
Crews from Northallerton responded but on arrival found no sign of fire.
An investigation revealed the burning smell was caused by the tumble dryer motor overheating.
Firefighters removed the tumble dryer from the property and advised the occupier to contact their insurance company.
