Firefighters called to horsebox on fire

Firefighters were called to a horsebox on fire today.

The incident occurred at about 4pm on the A1 northbound between junctions 50 Baldersby and 52 Leeming.

Fire crews from Northallerton, Ripon and Bedale attended.

On arrival crews located a horsebox carrying three horses on the hard shoulder of the carriageway that had suffered a fire under the vehicle.

The owner of the vehicle had used buckets of water prior to the fire service’s arrival and crews used a hose reel jet to dampen down and cool the vehicle.

Crews liaised with Highways Agency officers and stood by while they awaited the arrival of a second vehicle for the horses to be transferred into.
