Firefighters were called to a deliberate fire in Stokesley Market Place this morning.
Crews from Northallerton and Coulby Newman were called to inspect an alarm activating in a shop due to smoke at about 6.20am.
The smoke came from cardboard boxes smouldering at the rear of the shop.
A spokes person for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “This was believed to be deliberate and crews did a safety inspection only as the fire was out on their arrival.”
