Around 40 firefighters were called in to tackle a major barn fire last night.
North Yorkshire Fire and rescue Service said they received a large number of calls to the blaze at Carthorpe, near Bedale, at about 9.40pm.
Four appliances initially attended but this was increased to eight crews from across Hambleton and Harrogate ares.
The crews worked together to tackle a large fire consisting of four connected barns measuring around 80m by 50m.
The fire affected approximately 600 tonnes of straw and the crews worked to cool a neighbouring barn with hose reel jets, which contained piglets.
A spokesperson said: ” All sows and piglets were confirmed saved from fire.”
Two appliances and a high volume pump remained at the scene this morning.
