Fire crews from Thirsk, Ripon and Boroughbridge responded to a report of a vehicle towing a caravan on fire last night.
The incident happened at about 8.50pm on the A1 near Dishforth.
Firefighters located the vehicle in the live lane of the carriageway that had suffered a small fire in the engine compartment.
The fire was out on the arrival of fire crews.
Crews used a hose reel jet to cool the engine and a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots.
Firefighters then assisted highways officers to move both the vehicle and the caravan from the carriageway.
