Fire crews from Stokesley, Northallerton and Thornaby were mobilised to reports of an HGV carrying a large quantity of fuel smoking from underneath.
The incident was reported at about 6.10pm yesterday on the southbound carriageway of the A19 at Crathorne.
Firefighters assessed the HGV on arrival and cooled over-heated brakes with hose reel jets.
Crews then escorted the vehicle to nearby services.
