Final push for Leah Law’s petition as supporters plan Roseberry Topping challenge

A petition calling for the Government to change the law on supplying drugs to children has passed 8,000 signatures.

The petition was launched by Kerry Roberts, whose 15-year-old daughter Leah Heyes collapsed after taking the drug known as ecstasy in Northallerton’s Applegarth car park in May 2019.

Just over `1`,500 signatures are now needed for the Government to have to respond to the campaign.

James Norton, Kerry’s partner, said: “We need to achieve a minimum of 10,000 signatures so Kevin Hollinrake can show to MPs that there has been so many signatures all over the UK.

“This will really help with our fight of getting this law passed so please tell your friends family to sign and remember to click into the email that will be sent to you when you sign.

“This is the final push now — we have to get over the 10k signatures by April.”

The plea comes as supporters plan a fundraising challenge to raise money and awareness for the campaign.

The team from Sonny Playforth Hairdressing will climb Roseberry Topping as many times as possible on May 7 to set a new record.

As well as raising awareness for the campaign, it is hoped the challenge will raise money to pay for the Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation to come to Northallerton to deliver drugs education to children and support them in making safer choices.
