Final preparations are being made for the district council-run markets in Northallerton and Thirsk.
All of the markets are operating as normal before Christmas with an extra market taking place in Northallerton on Christmas Eve.
However, there will be no markets on Boxing Day or in Thirsk on Monday December 28.
Normal markets resume on Wednesday, December 30.
In a move set to boost festive shoppers’ spirits and to encourage people to shop local in not only the build up to Christmas but also during the festivities, Hambleton District Council has suspended charges in all of its car parks until January 3.
Leader of the council, Councillor Mark Robson said: “We want to try and support our residents and businesses in any way we can to enjoy the festive season as much as possible, after what’s been such a difficult year.
“We normally offer some free parking but this year it’s great to have been able suspend charges for a whole month.
“Our local shops are very important to the local economy and so far, the free parking is proving popular with our shoppers showing their support for local businesses in a year when they need it most.
The free festive parking applies to over 900 car parking bays across the district council’s car parks.
Parking time limits still apply in our dedicated ‘short stay only’ car parks at Market Place Thirsk, Applegarth short stay and Forum short stay in Northallerton.
Please note, we no longer manage Crosby Road car park in Northallerton therefore this car park is not subject to free parking.
Other markets are also taking place in:
- Bedale on 22 and 29 December
- Easingwold on 23 December and then nothing until 8 January
- Stokesley on 24 and 31 December
