Fake £50 notes used in Northallerton

A specimen sample of a real £50 note.

Please have issued a warning after fake £50 notes were used in Northallerton over the weekend.

Retailers have been urged to examine closely any large denomination notes and refuse them if in doubt.

They should then call 101 for further advice.

Things to look for on a genuine note are the ‘Bank of England’ printed in raised print and microlettering of the denomination below the Queen’s portrait which will react to ultraviolet light.
