The emergency services were called out after a crash at a petrol station.

The incident happened at the Exelby services on the A19 northbound at about 4.50am on Saturday.

Police say the driver lost control, hit the lamppost and took out all the power to the services.

Sgt Paul Cording added: “The fact they failed a roadside breath test may have something to do with it.”

The driver also tested positive for cannabis, with a bag of the drug found in the vehicle.

Northallerton firefighters responded to an ambulance request for scene safety following the single car RTC in the parking area of the services.

The fire crew made the vehicle safe, with the car’s occupants already in the care of ambulance staff.
