Firefighters from Thirsk responded to a driver who had lost control of their vehicle and struck a lamppost.
The incident happened at about 12.30am on the A168 near Thirsk.
Although it was believed the vehicle had started to smoke, on arrival, crews found no sign of fire.
Crews used small tools to isolate the battery and make the scene safe for police.
