A Hambleton tourist information centres (TIC) has undergone a makeover while in lockdown thanks to council cash.
A grant of almost £4,000 from Hambleton District Council’s vibrant market town budget, paid for a full refurbishment of Easingwold’s TIC.
The old front door, window and noticeboard have been replaced with the help of local joiner Chris Ford and brightly coloured bunting and a small donation box have been purchased.
The centre has also had new interior signage and notices put in place some of which reinforce HDC’s Enjoy Hambleton Safely Covid–19 recovery messages.
Cllr Mark Robson, leader of HDC, said: “As we are emerging from lockdown due to Covid-19 we see tourism at a local level as being really important for Hambleton and are focusing on it as one of the key elements of our evolving economic recovery plan.
“Helping to modernise Easingwold TIC by making it an attractive and inviting space for both visitors and volunteers, aligns with our vibrant market towns strategy as it seeks to promote Easingwold as a visitor destination and encourage people to extend their time in the area, spend money with local businesses and make return visits.”
Kate Buckby, TIC manager and chair of Wold Class Business Network, added: “We love our new look and are extremely grateful to Hambleton District Council for the support they have given us.
“The TIC is a popular focal point in the town and provides a useful service to visitors encouraging them to explore the local area and use businesses in the town.”
Additional funding for improvement to the heating and lighting was secured from the Easingwold Lions and Easingwold Town Council.
