Two motorists involved in a crash near Bedale last night had been drinking, but passed tests to determine if they were over the limit, police say.

The collision occurred on the B6268 Masham Road just after midnight on Friday.

It involved as Seat Ibiza and a Vauxhall Zafira.

Police say the driver of the Seat provided a breath test just under the limit following the crash.

The Vauxhall driver was taken to hospital to have his injuries assessed and provided a breath test over the limit.

But he later provided an evidential specimen under the limit after being discharged from hospital this morning.

However, police said he did not have a full driving licence or an insurance policy in place.

Inquiries into the collision are continuing.
