Dog starts Thirsk house fire

A dog started a fire when it jumped onto a cooker hob today.

Fire crews from Northallerton and Thirsk were called to reports of a fire at a house in Thirsk at about 1.15pm today.

On arrival crew confirmed a small fire had occurred in the kitchen “due to one of the dogs jumping up to the hob and switching it on”.

A plastic washing bowl was involved as was an air-fryer and steamer.

Crews removed the bowl outside and switched off the hob.

The house suffered smoke damage.

Firefighters ventilated the property and assisted the occupier.
