A Northallerton car park has been taken over by the developers of the £17m Treadmills scheme.
The CNDCL (Central Northallerton Development Company Ltd) is now managing the Crosby Road long stay car park, which will be an integral part of the former prison development.
Charges at the 228 space facility will initially remain unchanged at £3.20 all day, but the council’s park card scheme is no longer valid.
The card gives discount to regular users.
The district council still runs car parks at the Applegarth (long and short stay); and Forum (long and short stay) where the park cards can be used.
In May, new pay and display machines will be installed at Crosby Road and charges will operate 24/7 with options to pay for up to 2 hours, 2 to 4 hours and 24 hours (£1, £2 and £4 respectively).
ANPR cameras will also be installed to capture vehicle registration numbers – if vehicles do not purchase a display ticket enforcement could follow.
However, when drivers have exceeded their time limit they don’t need to return to buy a new ticket, but can merely top-up the ticket before they leave.
If a car enters and leaves within 10 minutes no payment will be needed and arrangements will be in place for local residents who use the car park to access their property driveways.
CNDCL will start work on the prison development scheme this summer – phase one will include retail and car parking, with Lidl and Iceland already signed up.
Phase two includes restaurants, cinema, public open space and a digital innovation centre.
Cinema chain, Everyman, will be the anchor for this part of the development.
