A housing association is preparing to restart its community action days aimed at making towns and villages where it has homes better places in which to live.

Broadacres, along with other agencies such as North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Council and Citizen’s Advice, first started the action days in 2023.

They proved particularly successful in 2024 with thousands of customers being visited in their homes or attending events held at venues across North Yorkshire.

More than 1,000 people provided feedback on their home, community and experience of Broadacres services and this information is now being used to shape the 2025 community action days which begin in Northallerton (covering Northallerton, Romanby, Brompton and surrounding villages) on Wednesday, February 19 from 10am to 2pm.

The action day hub will be in Northallerton town hall, with staff and other agencies also visiting people in their homes.

Tracy Hughes, Broadacres’ customer engagement and insight manager, said: “We were pleased with the success of the community action days in 2024, with 18 partner organisations joining us to offer advice and support to customers on everything ranging from fire safety and welfare benefit advice, through to tackling anti-social behaviour and ensuring our neighbourhoods remain clean and tidy.

“We are planning to take it even further this year by using the community profiling we have undertaken and tailoring the information so it’s bespoke to each local community.

“We’re also keen to share the positive news stories in each community, such as how much we have invested in people’s homes and how many repairs we have made.

“We want people to understand that the community action days are not just one-off events, but simply a starting point for our Neighbourhood Officers to then work with local people over the next 12 months to work on the priority issues.

“Ultimately, this all links to our corporate objective of developing great communities through developing insight, creating trust, building strong relationships and taking an early intervention and prevention approach.”
