A temporary Covid-19 testing station will operate in Northallerton over the next two days.
As part of the national roll out of the key worker testing for COVID–19, a military run drive-through mobile testing unit will be operating from the car park of Hambleton District Council’s Civic Centre in Northallerton.
The testing station opened today and will remain open tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 11am to 3pm.
Eligible key workers or their households who are displaying symptoms, can register for a test at https://self-referral.test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/
North Yorkshire County Council chief executive Ruichard Flinton said in his daily bulletin: “This mobile facility is particularly important for North Yorkshire, given its geography.
Starting in Scarborough at the weekend, the mobile unit is currently in Northallerton for a few days.
“Additional mobile units look set to supplement this in other Market Towns and communities too.
“The Government has big targets on testing of key workers and we will do what we can to support that effort in North Yorkshire.
“These drive-throughs are a valuable addition to the regional testing centre which opened near York yesterday.
Together with a programme which will deliver care homes testing kits, and which is operated by Deloitte, these measures will enable many more of our key workers to get back to work safely and quickly.
“There is a broad definition of eligible key workers, and the criteria on who can book a test, available on the gov.uk website.
These tests in Northallerton are available for eligible key workers who are self-isolating because they are within the first 5 days of displaying symptoms of COVID-19.
The tests are also available for key workers who are self-isolating because someone else in their household is displaying symptoms.
The householder displaying the symptoms can also be tested at the site with the key worker.
The Northallerton testing site will also be available for children of key workers, aged between 12 to 18, who are showing symptoms.
These tests will be need to be conducted by the parent (advice will be given at site).
Eligible key workers will need to bring their work ID with them to verify their role and will need to attend in their own household vehicle.
Those arriving without identification will not be able to undergo a test.
The current list of eligible key workers can be found at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-getting-tested
