Bosses at Hambleton District Council say they shares residents’ frustration that the new North Northallerton link road and bridge has not yet been opened — despite the route appearing to be complete.
The district council says it came up with the idea for the link road and bridge in its local plan.
It then secured funding for it from the housing developers and a grant from the Local Enterprise Partnership.
However, it said that the timing of the opening was down to Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon Homes, and the highways authority, North Yorkshire County Council.
Officials say a safety audit, which is standard practice before a new road can be opened, showed that there were some minor remedial works needed before it can be opened.
Leader of the council, Councillor Mark Robson said: “We share our residents’ frustrations but the opening is now dependent on how quickly the housing developers can get the works done.
“We will continue to press Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon Homes to complete these works and the highway authority to sign them off as soon as possible so that our residents and businesses can reap the benefit and make full use of the new link road.”
