Hambleton District Council marked the start of National Armed Forces Day celebrations on Monday by raising a special flag.
Council Members and staff were joined by veterans, civic dignitaries, forces personnel from RAF Leeming, Northallerton Air and Army Cadets and for the first time the Poppy Appeal Ladies, representing the Royal British Legion Poppy appeal, all came to see the Armed Forces Day flag raised at the Civic Centre in Northallerton
Rev Sandy Gall from RAF Leeming addressed the gathering and Chairman of Hambleton District Council, Councillor Kevin Hardisty read out an emotional piece called ‘Our Flag’.
“It is important that our Armed Forces past and present are shown support and gratitude for the huge personal sacrifices they have made and continue to make for our country,” he said.
“To have so many people represented at the ceremony – including veterans and cadets – made the event very special.”
