Richmondshire Orchestra has announced it will be supporting Herriot Hospice Homecare at its next concert.
Vive les Olympiques! will take place on Sunday, July 14 at The Gardens Rooms at Tennants in Leyburn.
The orchestra is pledging a donation from the proceeds of tickets sales as well as providing a platform to donate directly to Herriot Hospice at the concert and find out more about their work.
Herriot Hospice supports local families living with terminal illness and bereavement.
It is currently developing a new hospice at the former Lambert Memorial Hospital in Thirsk. This warm and welcoming space will offer inpatient hospice care, bereavement support rooms, a cafe and a community hub facility, bringing inpatient hospice care closer to home for families in Thirsk, Northallerton, Hambleton and Richmondshire.
It will mean people don’t have to make long and uncomfortable journeys when they, or someone important to them, is at the end of their life.
Herriot Hospice@The Lambert will also provide increased emotional well-being and bereavement support locally, as well as a hub for the HOME Service and Wellbeing Network.
“We’re delighted to be able to support Herriot Hospice Homecare’s crucial role in supporting our local community,” said Rebecca Robertson, publicity officer for Richmondshire Orchestra.
“They support those living with terminal illness and their carers through the most difficult time and beyond.”
The redevelopment of the Lambert Memorial Hospice, kickstarted by partnerships with Lambert League of Friends and the former Hambleton District Council, will cost more than £1.7m. Herriot Hospice has also received a grant of £250,000 from the Community Ownership Fund and Levelling Up Fund.
The support of the community, particularly during their innovative 36-hour campaign, raised more than £450,000 enabling them to reach their public appeal target.
Herriot Hospice is now asking the community to continue supporting Herriot Hospice@The Lambert, to ensure strong foundations ahead of the doors opening, so that this very special, critical service can be here today, tomorrow and in years to come.
The concert, ‘Vive les Olympiques’ which begins at 3pm on Sunday 14th July, takes inspiration from the 2024 Olympics in Paris, 100 years on from the first time the Olympics were held there in 1924.
“With the proximity of the concert to the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics, and the concert day falling on the French Anniversary of Bastille Day, I could not help but seek a link to the former event,” said Richmondshire Orchestra’s principal conductor Martin Budgett.
“Paris previously held the Games in 1924, so the music, to be performed by local musicians of all ages, has been chosen to represent the countries that finished in the top seven in the 1924 medals table.”
