Community invited to visit Hambleton’s new crematorium

A community open day is set to be held at the new multi-million-pound Hambleton Crematorium.

The local community will be welcome to look around the new facility between 11am and 3pm on Thursday 24 February.

As well as a tour of the facility, progress photographs taken during the development will be available for guests to view and light refreshments will be available.

Work began on the council led crematorium build in November 2020, with the Crematorium set to open in March. The crematorium features a revolutionary electric cremator to reduce emissions and therefore the area’s carbon footprint.

The 22-acre site named Maple Park, is close to both the A1 and A19 and includes a service hall which will accommodate approximately 120 mourners plus additional room for standing. There is also an entrance foyer, waiting lobby, offices and a family room.

As well as this, the single storey facility includes a wake facility and café with beautiful views out over the Hambleton hills. The site also offers a memorial garden, meadows and a wooded area making it a calm and peaceful place for reflection or for scattering ashes.

Leader of Hambleton District Council, Councillor Mark Robson said: “It’s great news that this new, much needed community facility is set to open in March and it’s only right to offer the local community the opportunity to come and look around.

“I am delighted with the finished product which provides a high-quality, calm and peaceful space, both out and indoors, for family and friends to say goodbye and commemorate their loved ones.

“Every care has been taken to create a unique and versatile space which I hope people will benefit from for many years to come. I hope to welcome as many of the local community to the site as possible, so they can see for themselves the first-class facility that’s been created.”
