Community groups in Hambleton invited to bid for grants

Community groups in Hambleton are invited to bid for a share of £125,000 in funding for local projects.

Members of Hambleton District Council’s cabinet committee recently voted to fund its Making a Difference Grants programme for the fifth year.

Since the programme started in 2015, 132 organisations have been awarded grants for a range of projects – including schemes to develop facilities such as village halls, sports clubs or play areas to those that support people with mental health, loneliness and isolation and young people with disabilities.

This year’s funding will bring the total allocated to community groups by the grants programme to £625,000.

“These grants are helping local groups across Hambleton to bring forward projects that make a massive difference to their communities,” said Council Leader, Councillor Mark Robson.

“We have already helped 132 organisations and look forward to seeing many more in the next round of funding.”

Each market town area of the district – Bedale, Easingwold, Northallerton, Stokesley and Thirsk – receives £25,000.

Grant applications are considered by the local ward councillors, with cabinet members giving the final approval.

Successful applications will be high quality bids that demonstrate how the project will meet a clearly defined need and make a real difference to the community as well as addressing one of the following council’s priorities – driving economic vitality, enhancing health and wellbeing, caring for the environment or providing a special place to live.

The deadline for applications is January 11, 2019, with a decision on which applications have been successful expected in April 2019.
