Drugs and a knife were seized during raids in Thirsk.

Two houses were targeted simultaneously in the town on Friday.

A quantity of cannabis and a knife were seized at one addresses, with cannabis also seized at the other.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team in Thirsk were assisted by colleagues from Northallerton.

North Yorkshire Police say these were the first of an ongoing operation targeting drugs within Hambleton communities.

PC James Leese, beat manager for Thirsk, said: “We are fully committed to tackling the scourge of drugs in our communities, and we will continue to proactively investigate and carry out searches linked to the drugs trade.”

Hambleton’s Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Sarah Sanderson said: “We are focusing on differing towns in Hambleton to progress with regular warrants as part of our crackdown on the distribution, supply and use of drugs.

“We hope communities are reassured by the action we are taking and that when we say targeting drugs within the community is a priority for North Yorkshire Police, we mean it.

“We urge people to report any information they have about drug dealing in their communities on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers 0800 555111.

“We will take action.”
