Hambleton District Council used Yorkshire Day eysterday to encourage local businesses to start preparing for the UCI Road World Championships next month and give both riders and visitors a ‘reight’ proper Yorkshire welcome.

Postcards listing ‘ten top tips’ are being handed out to businesses in Northallerton town centre to make sure they are informed about the event and have the opportunity to prepare for this global event, only weeks away.

“We want the businesses to take advantage of all the visitors to the town, before during and after the event,” said Chairman of Hambleton District Council, Councillor Kevin Hardisty.

“Businesses need to think internationally as there will be lots of overseas visitors and talk to their customers about the UCI as well as work with other businesses in the town. Information is available on our website and the Yorkshire 2019 website.”

Tips include – keeping your website up to date so that it alerts customers to what is happening, adapting opening times to coincide with visitors staying in the area and changing your product for the event so it appeals to residents and visitors.

Businesses can also adopt a country and dress their business to support the cycling team from that country.

The UCI Road World Championships come to Yorkshire from 21 – 29 September  with the men elite time trials setting off from Northallerton High Street on Wednesday 25.

Both the men and women elite road races come back through West Tanfield on the 28 and 29.
