Insects in Sowerby are feeling snug thanks to three hotels built specially for them.
Volunteers from The Clock (pictured) have created three bug hotels at the Sowerby Environmental Space Project – to attract a wide variety of mini-beasts.
They provide spaces in between twigs, bamboo, cobbles, broken pieces of pottery and tiles, for insects to set up home.
And as well as the hotels, 36 bird boxes have been installed to provide safe places for birds to nest; and hedgehogs can travel in and out of the area safely thanks to holes which have been installed along the perimeter fence
In total 3.58 hectares of land has been developed to support habitats for wildlife, and 259 trees and 10,000 native hedgerows have been planted as well as grass and wildflower mixes.
Over time the site will become a haven for small mammals, birds and insects.
The Sowerby Environmental Space Project -which is being developed by Hambleton District Council and part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund – continues to develop and create homes for wildlife as part of a scheme to increase biodiversity.
