Our Hospitals Charity is hosting a Big Tea Party in Northallerton to mark the 75th anniversary of the NHS.
The event is being held at Northallerton Town Hall and High Street on Wednesday, July 5 from 9am to 5pm and will include a wide range of stalls, historical exhibitions, entertainment and the chance to grab a cuppa and cake.
Emmerdale actor Chris Chittell will be attending as a special guest to support the NHS in this special birthday year.
Members of the U3A are coming along with their choir and ukulele band and will be providing the morning entertainment.
Charlie Lomer, the keyboard player for the tribute band, Alanis Morissette, will be the afternoon’s entertainment – to mark the special milestone at the town hall, which is going to be lit in blue as a tribute to the NHS.
President of the Nurses League, Eva Shuttleworth, will also be joining the charity team in the town hall to discuss the history of the Friarage Hospital. Memorabilia such as old uniforms and hospital flags will be present for visitors to walk through the hospital’s history.
Local schools will be covering the walls of the town hall with mural paintings – displaying the importance of the NHS in their lives.
Several small businesses such as Northallerton Flower Club and Whitegates Garden Centre will also be offering their support to the charity on the day.
Judith Masterman, community fundraiser for Our Hospitals Charity, the fundraising arm of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “These celebrations are for our NHS staff past, present and future and to take a journey back to where it all began.
“I am so lucky and privileged to be part of it.”
Families and friends are also being encouraged to host their own tea parties to commemorate the special occasion.
Register your fundraising event at www.nhsbigtea.co.uk by selecting register, fundraise for your local charity and South Tees Hospitals Charity.
All proceeds from the event will go to Our Hospitals Charity, which raises funds for hospitals across Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Hambleton and Richmondshire.
