A Bedale swimmer will be exercising free for the next year after winning a prize dip.

Louise Croft took part in Hambleton District Council’s 12 Days of Swimming campaign where customers were encouraged to swim 12 times between 1 December, 2018 and 12 January, 2019.

Customers completing the 12 swims received a free Zest sports bottle and were entered into a prize draw to win a year’s free Zest Swim membership which can be used at any of Hambleton’s four leisure centres.

Louise who swims at Bedale Leisure Centre said “You know how you enter these competitions thinking that you won’t win and then forget all about it. So it was a fabulous surprise when I received a phone call to tell me that I had won the years free swimming membership.

“I swim three to four times a week first thing on a morning and have done so for nearly three years.  For me it is a fantastic way to keep fit and to work on my core strength.

“Swimming has been crucial for me to support my back through its injuries.

“Bedale is a wonderful centre with friendly chatty staff who make you feel exceedingly welcome.

“I am totally over the moon to be the winner of this prize and will continue to swim regularly, thank you so much.”

And Councillor Mrs Bridget Fortune, portfolio holder for leisure who is pictured with Louise, said “Our 12 Days of Swimming promotion was introduced in order to encourage usage over the festive period.

“We wanted to motivate our customers to keep working towards their goals and so we planned a challenge that  both new and existing customers could take part in.

“Over 100 people completed the challenge across the four leisure centres.”
