Bedale woman born during the outbreak of WWI, celebrates 104th birthday

A WOMAN born at the outbreak of the First World War has celebrated her 104th birthday.

Molly Hepworth is Bedale’s oldest resident. In her lifetime she has seen two world wars, the invention of computers, the internet and television.

Born and raised in West Hartlepool, in 1914, Molly and her late husband Geoffrey retired to North Yorkshire from Edinburgh.   She studied English at Liverpool University where she met her future husband – they married in India where they spent five years before moving to Germany and eventually Scotland.

She has two sons and a daughter, four granddaughters, two grandsons, five great granddaughters and three great grandsons.

Molly celebrated with her family and the staff at the Millings Residential Home in Bedale, when the Chairman of Hambleton District Council, Councillor David Blades and ward member, Councillor John Noone popped in to wish her a happy birthday.
