Bedale runner raises money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance

Marathon runner Michelle Slade.

A Bedale runner was determined to complete a marathon in her own time despite the cancellation of the Yorkshire Marathon due to Covid-19.

Michelle Slade, 58, has done so much training for the challenge, that she decided to continue and ran her own marathon around Bedale and the surrounding villages on October 18.

She had never been on a run before last year but has now lost three stone during the last 12 months through training, admitting “she a little bit proud of herself”.

Michelle’s generous family and friends have donated to her JustGiving page and helped her raise a mammoth £1,120 — more than double her original fundraising target.

Tessa Klemz, North Yorkshire community fundraiser, said: “We would like to thank Michelle for taking on such a mammoth personal challenge.

“Like many charities, fundraising has been hit hard by Covid and thanks to Michelle’s enthusiasm and energy, we can continue to keep the two yellow helicopters flying across Yorkshire saving lives.”
