The BBC’s Antiques Road Trip will be filming part of its new series at an auction in Bedale on Sunday.
The show, which first aired in 2010, sees two antique experts travelling across the UK in classic vintage cars, competing to make the biggest profit buying and selling antiques and collectibles.
Starting with a budget of £200 each, they visit antique shops and fairs in search of bargains that are sold at auctions en route. The winner is the expert who makes the greatest profit at the end of the journey.
This particular trip features veteran antiques road-tripper Angus Ashworth with Steven Moore. They will be taking turns to drive a soft-top 1963 Hillman Superminx.
Divided into five sections, their route starts in the Scottish borders and moves across from St Andrews in the east to Dunoon in the west. They then head south towards Matlock and Sheffield on the fourth leg of the trip where they will pick up antiques to sell at Elstob & Elstob’s Bedale sale.
David Elstob, a director of the Bedale-based auction house which opened its doors at the beginning of the year, said: “We are delighted to be featured as one of the auction venues for this much-loved show.
“The ten objects that the team bring in to be sold could be anything from fine china to a piece of vintage clothing but this is what makes it so exciting and we look forward to helping Angus and Steven achieve the best possible prices.”
Anyone attending the auction, which is open to the public, will be able to find out how much the individual lots raise. Everyone else will have to wait and see how the experts fared until the programme goes on air early next year.
The auction itself starts at 10am on Sunday and the contents of the sale can be viewed at Bedale Hall, Bedale, on Friday 20 September between 10am and 7pm.
The sale itself is a two-day event on Saturday and Sunday but the filming will only take place on the Sunday.
