Athletics club raises more than £1,000 for Dales Centre

Hambleton Athletics and Running Club (HARC) has spent the last 12 months raising funds for the Dales Centre in Bedale which offers opportunities to socialise and enjoy a reasonably priced meal, with everyone welcome to come along.

The main event was their annual HARC Angels 5km, which involves participants running or walking 5km anywhere and at any time in December to earn themselves a ‘winged’ medal.

This year, the club attracted over 50 supporters to this virtual event, generating £459.48 for the charity.

Further fundraising efforts included a prize draw which was made possible by prize donations from a range of local businesses from Bedale and Northallerton. A massive thank you goes to all of them for their generosity.

Members presented the donation to representatives of the Dales Centre last week. The grand total for the year came to £1,020.63.

Charles Ropner, chair of trustees for the Dales Centre, said: “The Dales Centre was extremely pleased and very grateful to have received such a generous donation from HARC.

It illustrates the strong bond between the club and the centre. The centre provides a welcoming place for locals to get a good meal and enjoy some company.

“It is due to the generosity of organisations like HARC that the Dales Centre is able to contribute to the well-being of the community. Thank you HARC, from all at the Dales Centre.”

HARC chair, Gemma Wardle, added: “Community spirit and inclusivity are at the heart of our club so fundraising for local causes fits perfectly with our ethos.

“Our members choose the charity they’d like to support each year and I’m really proud of how enthusiastically they get on board with our charitable activities.”
